Today Google announced that it would be re-branding Google Webmaster Tools to Search Console. For the 10 years Webmaster Tools has been a great servant to website owners and online marketers alike. However, Google has taken the step of re-branding the product.
Google said in a statement
“What you all share is a desire to make your work available online, and to make it findable through Google Search. So, to make sure that our product includes everyone who cares about Search, we’ve decided to re-brand Google Webmaster Tools as Google Search Console ”
What this means for Website Owners
You can login to Search Console right now via this link:
This looks only to be a rebrand to make the product more appealing to users. There have been some minor changes to the interface, but nothing too drastic. Which is good news for those website owners that have just probably got to grips with what they know as Webmaster Tools”.
Hopefully with this change Google will look to make improvements to the product over the course of this year to help website owners understand more how their site is seen by Google and how they can make improvements from a search and usability perspective.
